Ops & Tech Sub - Comm Meeting

WHEEEEE It's finally our turn!! Here's the update from the Ops & Tech Team!!

As our name suggests, we are the group in charge of researching, designing and building the Reed Bed System! Sounds geeky huh? But no!! Let me show you what we've done thus far!

The team had our first meeting on the 25th of October! *HEEEE So belated* Before we started with the serious matters, my partner, Qing Wei, and I decided to have some team bonding games to see how our members work with each other! Members were divided into two groups and were given task to complete. Team 1 consisted of Mok, Shao Han and Chin Kai and Team 2 has Tiong Suan, Lionel and the only rose among the thorns, ELIZA!!! haha!

The first task was to fill a plastic cup without stepping into a space demarcated by masking tape. It was interesting to observe the differences in the approach adopted by both teams. One was more direct, using human chain to extend their reach to fill the cup, while the other was more meticulous, siphoning water from their mouth into the cup!!

The second task was to use the leftover materials to build a structure that will protect a raw egg from a two storey drop. Teams were given 10 mins to build the structure. The goal of this task is to minimise the impact received by the egg when it reaches the ground. So... what did they do?

Team 1 once again adopted a direct approach, sticking everything together to form this... I don't know what to call it. HEE HEE

Team 2 decided to go with a parachute! hmmm!! "I hope there is enough drag force" Was there enough retardation?? We shall see... Both design were put to the test. We have a video of that :D

AMAZING RIGHT?! Both eggs survived the fall!! *Clap please!!*

That was the end of the team bonding session. After that was the dreaded work :P Team members were given a specific area of research on the reed bed system. Things like optimisation and methods to further purify our water source... The meeting was adjourned then! We held several team meetings to discuss and share our findings before we decided on our prototype design.. There's a lot of technical details covered so I shan't bore you with that. It was a tedious process but at least we got somewhere :D

Two weeks ago, on the 10th of December, we built our first prototype! I shall let the picture show you all the fun we had :D

Yup yup! We are still in the midst of testing and might be changing the species of reed we would be using! So stay tune for more exciting news from us :D
